The Jackson Symphony is committed to providing quality educational opportunities for young musicians in West Tennessee. The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestras challenges students to develop their musical skills to their fullest potential.
The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra, now in its eleventh year, is led by Elizabeth Weimer. For the 2009-2010 season, this orchestra will present three free concerts and a side-by-side performance of Mahler's 1st Symphony, last movement with The Jackson Symphony.
Entry into The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra is by audition. Although auditions have taken place, students who play any string instrument, oboe, bassoon or harp may contact Mrs. Weimer at (731) 427-6440 or by email to schedule an audition.
The Sinfonia Strings ensemble, directed by Tricia Wilburn, is The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestras' intermediate ensemble.
Students with 1 or 2 years of private instruction are encouraged to participate in Camerata Strings. This ensemble, led by Dorthy White Okpebholo, introduces young children to ensemble playing.
Musicians from The Jackson Symphony often lead sectional rehearsals. Members of The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestras are admitted free to all regular season concerts presented by The Jackson Symphony. There is a small annual tuition fee for orchestra members.
