Youth Orchestras

The Jackson Symphony is committed to providing quality educational opportunities for young musicians in West Tennessee. The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestras challenge students to develop their musical skills to their fullest potential.

The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra will begin its 13th season in 2011-2012 under the direction of Dr. Daniel Hornstein. The orchestra will present three free concerts and a side-by-side performance with The Jackson Symphony during the season. Entry into The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra is by audition. Serious young musicians who play any string instrument, standard orchestral brass and woodwinds, or  percussion are invited to audition. The first rehearsal of the 2011-2012 season will be Thursday, August 18 from 6:30 to 8:45 PM.

JSYO fall auditions will be held Saturday, August 13 from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, August 14 from 1 PM to 5 PM. Audition information and registration forms are available at The Jackson Symphony office or by emailing danhornstein@hotmail.com. Registration forms must be received in the office by August 8. The Sinfonia Strings ensemble, directed by Tricia Wilburn, is The Jackson Symphony's intermediate string orchestra. Auditions will be August 9, Tuesday between 2:00-6:30pm. The first rehearsal is August 16, 2011 at 5:30-6:30.

Students with 1 or 2 years of private instruction are encouraged to participate in Camerata Strings. This ensemble, led by Joy Krimm, introduces young children to ensemble playing. Rehearsals will be announced soon.

Musicians from The Jackson Symphony often lead sectional rehearsals. Members of The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestras are admitted free to all regular season concerts presented by The Jackson Symphony. There is a small annual tuition fee for orchestra members.
