The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra Auditions and Camp
2022-2023 Season

CAMP

The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra is excited to hold a camp this summer that is for members and non-members of the JSYO! It will be held from June 27th to June 30th (10:00am-3:00pm) and will take place in the music building of Union University. We will have professional musicians coming in to do intensives and sectionals with each section, as well as reading some fun music as a whole group and practicing ensemble skills and sounds. Open to brass, winds, strings and percussion players. $50 for non members and a JSYO t shirt is included. AUDITIONS 

We are excited that you want to audition for the Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra! This year we will be doing virtual auditions  Please read the requirements for auditioning closely, and email gshaw@thejacksonsymphony.org with any questions you might have!

 

Instructions:

  1. Please go fill out an audition form (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TJYOauditions2122).

  2. Record your virtual audition. Make sure you and your instrument are visible at all times. Record all three sections in three different video clips. (Sections listed below)

  3. Email virtual audition videos with your name and instrument to JSYOrchestra@gmail.com. Multiple emails might be necessary to send videos due to file size.

  4. All virtual submissions will be accepted from May 9, 2022-May 20, 2022. Please make sure you have time to upload and send your videos.

 

String requirements:

  1. Major Scales: Concert G, E, Bb, Gb.

  2. Have a two minute solo or etude prepared that you feel demonstrates your current ability and level of playing.

  3. Perform an entire excerpt for your instrument. Excerpt found by clicking the link on this page

 

Woodwinds and Brass requirements:

  1. Major Scales: Concert G, E, Bb, Gb..

  2. Have a two minute solo or etude prepared that you feel demonstrates your current ability and level of playing.

  3. Perform entire excerpt for your instrument. Excerpt found by clicking the link on this page

 

Percussion requirements:

  1. Perform a two minute solo on the marimba or snare.

  2. You will be required to perform the linked excerpt on timpani.
